Nory Ryan's Song
Patricia Reilly Giff (2000) , 120-160 pages
Audience: Intermediate (4th-6th grade)
Category: Historical, Realistic Fiction
|
Nory lives in a poor farming village on
the coast of Ireland, where even the
adults believe in fairies and everyone
dreams of moving to Brooklyn. Times
there are tough, but Nory has a song, a
joke, and a helping hand for everyone
she knows.
Nory Ryan's Song is loosely
based on
the author's family history. It takes
place during the Great Potato Famine of
1845, and gives a realistic portrayal
of Ireland at the time.
