South County Regional Library, serving southern Mecklenburg County, is the county’s largest regional library. The 34,000 sq. ft. building was constructed in 1998 with funds from bonds approved by voters in 1995. Since opening, South County has become a favorite destination for all ages, offering a large selection of books and media, 80 personal computers for public use, full service information assistance, and special programs for every interest. South County's staff provides friendly, professional service to over 450,000 visitors each year.
The Main Floor showcases the newest and high-demand materials including bestsellers, DVDs and videos, music CDs, rental bestsellers, audiotape and CD books, and a popular ongoing book sale. The open lobby provides gallery space for art and cultural exhibits, and French doors open onto a terrace with reflecting pools, a shady arbor, and bistro tables…just the spot for relaxing with the latest book from a favorite author.

Children’s Services are a top priority at South County, where young patrons and their parents can find everything from picture books and videos to encyclopedias and software-to-go. Expert staff offers guidance on great reading and homework resources. South County kids love the child-sized computer center featuring 20 PCs with skill building games and educational tools. An action-packed monthly programming calendar begins with "Books and Babies" for the littlest library-goers and continues with special programs for toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children. Because of their popularity, children's programs require advance registration, held on the 20th of each month for the following month's programs.

The Information Services department offers patrons full-service, professionally staffed reference assistance, a large collection of books, media, and reference materials, programming for older students and adults, over 60 personal computers with electronic resources and Internet access, and a designated "Quiet Zone" for concentrated study.
South County has a large community room and two small conference rooms available for public meetings, generous parking, ample study and lounge areas, public art, and landscaped courtyards.
