Library Organization

Library Board of Trustees, schedule of meetings & minutes
While the library receives much of its funding from Mecklenburg County, we are proud of our status as a separate, independent entity with our own governing body, the Library Board of Trustees. The Director of Libraries, Charles M. Brown, reports to the Board of Trustees and provides leadership and vision for the Library. Executive Leadership Team
In December 2006, the Library embarked on a process of reorganization to better serve the community, with five strategic outcomes:

  • To build a highly literate and educated community.
  • To be highly accessed and cherished by our community.
  • To contribute to the economic health, cultural and social capital of our community.
  • To become a preferred employer in our community and nationally among libraries.
  • To be good stewards of the community’s trust and resources.
To achieve these outcomes, the library created a revolutionary plan to realign the organizational structure into a collaborative approach of four core focus areas, each with leadership that reports to the Director of Libraries.
  • Library Experiences
  • Community Engagement
  • Research, Innovation & Strategy
  • Organizational Resources

Our Strategic Plan for the future
It is on the heels of this reorganization that the library looks to its future, beginning a new era of service to the community. With significant input from the community and library staff, the library has updated its three-year Strategic Plan with goals that are not only timely and relevant to the community, but also aligned with the five strategic outcomes above. Community Partners
The library enjoys a close working relationship with many agencies in Mecklenburg County. These partnerships allow us to maximize the impact of the services we provide, and increase accessibility to resources that fall outside the realm of library service. View a list of community partners
